CLUB HISTORY

Cúchulainn Hurling Club was founded in 1945 as part of the Christian Brothers’ Past Pupils Union. In 1949 its name was changed to Cúchulainn Hurling Club. Since its inception, the Club has won twenty-one County Senior Hurling Championships and over the years fourteen members have represented Ulster at Provincial level.

Players and mentors have attended successful coaching courses at Gormanstown College and subsequent juvenile groups spent hurling holidays at the College.

In 1970 the GAA Central Council introduced an adoption scheme in an effort to improve the standard of hurling in the weaker counties. County Clare adopted County Armagh , and as a result, Cúchulainn’s fruitful association with Clarecastle began. Another successful partnership with Roanmore, from County Waterford , has also blossomed over the years.

In 1977 the Cúchulainn Hurling Club won Division Three of the Antrim League and in 1988 won promotion to Division One where it was able to remain for two seasons.
